Made in Czechoslovakia, this exquisite Modernist piece is made from glass infused with Neodymium, allowing it to change color in relation to a light source. (Also known as Alexandrite glass.) In daylight and LED it is a lavender-pink but will transform to a cool blue under fluorescents.
Blown into a mold, with silhouette established at the rim, wave-like shapes in 4 vertical panels grow larger heading to the base. The depressed frosted surfaces were made using a hand-applied Battuto-like technique (a grinding wheel on cold surfaces) making the piece very tactile. Deep acid-cut notches run down opposing sides while slightly raised glass runs ropelike down the other two sides.
Josefodol Glassworks was restructured into Zelezny Brod Sklo (ZBS).
Measurements: 8" tall, 2 1/2" at widest point.
Excellent Condition: no chips, cracks. Very light scratching on base.
