In 1936, the fervor of the workers enveloped Île Seguin, a suburb of Paris──.
This is a historical issue of the photojournalism magazine "VU," capturing the scene of a demonstration that filled the iconic gates of the Renault factory.
⸻
"VU," a French photojournalism magazine, published on June 3, 1936.
The cover features an iconic scene of workers striking at the gates of the Renault factory on Île Seguin, Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb of Paris.
The Renault factory on Île Seguin was built in the early 1900s and operated for a long time as a symbol of French industry. Demolition began in 2004, and a museum designed by Tadao Ando was planned for the future.
I continued to photograph almost every day for about a year and a half from the first day of the factory's demolition.
This "VU" magazine is one of the valuable materials I collected to better understand the social background and the workers' lives at the time.
A valuable book both historically and photographically.
You can feel the texture of the paper and printing of the time, and the breath of the photojournalism of the 1930s.
