Binding is firm, text is clean, with moderate age-related discoloration. Minor wear from shelf storage. The dust jacket is printed based on Gauguin's design and has tears and peeling at the top and bottom of the spine and on the cover.

Gauguin recorded his experiences from his first trip to Tahiti in 1893 in the diary "Noa Noa" (meaning "fragrant" in Tahitian) in collaboration with his friend, the Symbolist poet Charles Morice. He completed this project during his second visit to Tahiti in 1895, adding numerous watercolors, woodcuts, and photographs. The jacket is printed based on Gauguin's design.
