Vintage 1937, 1938 & 1939 Chevrolet Chevy Brake NoRol Hill Assist Device GM FD3090.
This “NoRol” device (often also called a hill-holder) was an early form of anti–rollback / hill-start assist offered in the late 1930s on many vehicles, including some Chevrolet models. Originally manufactured by Bendix under the trade name “NoRoL,” it was designed to:
Prevent rollback when starting on an uphill grade, by holding the brakes until the clutch began to engage.
Operate via a ball-type check mechanism in the brake hydraulic line that would block return flow on an incline, keeping the brakes applied until the clutch motion released it.
