Vintage Virgin Mary Seashell Grotto Shrine – Abalone & Coral – Mid-Century

A beautiful mid-century handmade seashell shrine featuring a depiction of Mary. The virgin mother of Jesus Christ.
This devotional piece is crafted from a natural abalone shell with real seashells, coral, and a small painted Mary figure at the center. The abalone’s natural shimmer creates a striking backdrop, and the coral and shells are arranged on a plaster base painted to resemble sand and surf.

Likely made in Italy in the 1950s–1960s, these were sold as Catholic souvenirs in Mediterranean seaside towns such as Naples or Lourdes.
