Antique Early Parian Ware Exquisite Porcelain Italian Maiden Statue Holding Fruit. Parian ware is a type of bisque porcelain imitating the incredible details found in marble. Developed around 1845 by the Staffordshire pottery manufacturer Mintons, and named after Paros, the Greek island renowned for its fine-textured, white Parian marble, used since antiquity for sculpture. It was also contemporaneously referred to as Statuary Porcelain by Copeland. Early versions were intensely detailed as seen in this piece. Though later Parian Ware was liquified and poured into molds, the early pieces were sculpted, hand pressed, hand formed and assembled with a sculptors precision. A beautiful example with only minor wear on the fruit leaves. Barely perceptible. No chips or cracks anywhere on the rest of the statue. Some soil from where this statue was around potted plants. Easy to remove with a soft brush. No staining. See photos for details and condition.
