We are offering this extremely fine, hand painted Chinese lacquer tea caddy. This gorgeous tea caddy has sophisticated decoration with gilding which is typical, however this example has the finest quality vignettes with polychrome lacquer decoration and hand carved dragon feet.
This example also has the original pewter tea caddies, with ivory handles. One of the pewter caddies is missing a lid.
Based on the decoration it is possible this is an 18th century example instead of the more common 19th century ones.
Condition: Some age splitting and a missing pewter lid and key as seen in photos. One pewter lid has separated a bit.
These amazing hand crafted tea caddies similar in design sell on antique sites for anywhere from $550-$15,000. This piece was passed down from my great grandmother who had quite the collection when she passed, and I hope someone out there will enjoy this for their own collection.
