Later in the '70s, Mike James Kirkland (a.k.a. Bo Kirkland) recorded the classic soul LP Hang on in There and notched nine R&B hits, most with Ruth Davis. Before that, he recorded a bunch of singles as Mike and the Censations, ranging from straight-up doo wop to soul, funk and jazz-tinged tunes.
